The Office of the Chief Technology Officer at Nokia is much more than an office. And it’s not just about the CTO. In fact, Nokia OCTO represents an entire network of researchers and thought leaders distributed around the globe, including Nokia Research Center (NRC), with more than 800 employees worldwide.
Charged with turning insights into innovative technologies, Nokia OCTO plays a pivotal role in building the company’s long-term technology vision and roadmap. This multifaceted organization engages in open collaboration with consumers and research institutions alike, seeking to explore the creative collision between what’s valuable and what’s possible.
Nokia OCTO has five business units that work together to envision, research, and develop the future of mobile communications:


Bridges Nokia OCTO strategic plans to operational performance, both internally and externally, as a unified community of technology thought leaders. This unit includes responsibility for the research strategy, portfolio and operations and is led by Andreas Korczak.

Participates actively in the scientific community and relies on open innovation to deliver breakthrough technology solutions. CTR creates new technology assets and innovates new experiences and services for Nokia’s extended core businesses. Led by Petteri Alinikula.

Drives the innovation process based on consumer and business needs. With a view toward buildingNokia’s research strategy and product portfolio, this unit creates proofs of concept, manages market trials, and runs selected technology development projects. Led by Hannu Kauppinen.

Builds relationships with industry partners, engaging with experts to support activities in the emerging markets and within the Silicon Valley community.
